Players are able to switch between first-person and third-person at any moment. The game is played through the third person over-the-shoulder view. A sequel to Lost Planet, titled Lost Planet 2, was announced in February 2009. On May 27, 2008, a special edition of the game was released in North America titled Lost Planet: Colonies. The game sold over a million copies worldwide by April 2007.
